Data in Google Sheets are sometimes not clean. At least not in the way you need it. If you are presented with a messy column, try the Google Sheets SPLIT function.
For instance, if you need to split data in your spreadsheet, the SPLIT function works very well. It divides a cell based on a highlighted character and puts each part of the text into separate cells in a row.
Using the SPLIT Function in Google Sheets
For example, you might want to split the name and the year of the Nobel Peace price winners (source).
The data is presented as "*Henry Dunant* (1828–1910)" as seen below.
In this case you can utilize the SPLIT function to easily fill the two columns.
